Summer Steam Sale!

Steam Sale!
Steam Sale!

It’s that time of year again!

Here’s what I’ve picked up:

Now that I’ve compiled a list of everything I’ve bought during the Steam sale, I’m pretty embarassed. Sure, most of the games were incredibly cheap and nothing above $10. But that’s still a lot of games.

Podcasts for the Road

For many years now, whenever I’ve driven across the province solo I’ve listened to podcasts for the bulk of the trip. They keep me mentally engaged for the 7 hour trip and they often leave me laughing, thoughtful or with a mental list of books and movies to check out.

For those of you who watched Kevin Smith’s films during your formative years, I encourage you to listen to the first 6 episodes of this series. For many years, Mewes was suffering with an on-and-off drug addiction, and these episodes are an honest and unapologetic telling of that story in an effort to keep him honest and keep him sober.

Despite Chris Hardwick’s need to name-drop or compare his career to some formidable guest, The Nerdist podcast rarely disappoints. This week I listened to guests Adam Savage, Bill Gates, Gillian Anderson and Pauly Shore.

After hearing enough glowing reviews from podcast and history enthusiasts, I decided to try Dan Carlin’s Wrath of the Khans mini-series from his Hardcore History podcast. Despite being the first podcast I’ve ever listened to that was a single person talking for hours without even a musical break, I was very impressed. He paints an in-depth picture of the Mongols that is both fascinating and disturbing.

Pow!

If you combine the best elements of the combat of the Batman Arkham series with the exploration of the Assassin’s Creed series, and then add the surprisingly awesome Nemesis system, you get Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.

Despite loving Dragon: Age Inquisition, I needed to take a break from my 120+ hour save to try something new. I had picked up Shadow of Mordor during a recent sale and kept hearing overwhelmingly positive reviews, so I decided to give it a try. It was exactly what I needed.
